AzNJRA (formerly WASS) is open to youth ages 4 through 18. The eligibility date for division selection is Jan 1st so if you were 14 on Jan 1st you would be in the junior division. However if a contestant feels that they would like to compete in a higher division (e.g. the 14 year old wants to compete with the seniors), then the contestant can move up to the next higher division. Once the switch is made they cannot move back during that season. Also, if a contestant wants to compete in an event that is not offered in their division but is offered in an older division, they may move up in that event only. For example, the contestant is 10 and is in the peewee division but wants to team rope- the contestant can team rope in the junior division, however, any points earned in the junior team roping count only towards that event for year end awards. The points earned in the junior team roping would never count towards the peewee all around. The divisions and events are:
Midget: ages 4-7. Wooly riding, flag racing, barrel racing and goat un-tagging.
PeeWee: ages 8-11. Barrel racing, pole bending, goat tying and breakaway roping.
Juniors: ages 12-14. Barrel racing, pole bending, goat tying, breakaway roping and team roping.
Senior girls: ages 15-18. Barrel racing, pole bending, goat tying, breakaway roping and team roping.
Senior boys: ages 15-18. Ribbon roping, tie down calf roping and team roping.
****AzNJRA junior rodeo contestants compete at AzNJRA for payback and points only. Other sponsors may offer awards. Series end awards are presented at the awards banquet; date to be announced. Members accumulate points from the time of PAID membership. Members must compete in greater than 50% of the rodeos to be eligible for series end awards. That means if there are 18 rodeos, you must compete in at least 9 to be eligible.
***D/L Manygoats and Howards Rodeo: entry fees and payback will be set by sponsor. AzNJRA members will receive points for participating at these rodeos. Sponsors may elect to have awards also. Please notify Debi or Melinda when you sign up at these rodeos that you are a AzNJRA member.
